2006/10/16

This past weekend was a lot of fun. We traveled to Turkey Run in Indiana. Camped out Friday night and enjoyed the festivals at the Covered Bridge festival on both Friday and Saturday. When we traveled to Bridgeton, IN, we were delighted to see a new Covered Bridge. Last year, someone decided that they would burn down the old one. I couldn't believe that a new one had already been constructed and completed. It wouldn't be the same, if "Bridgeton” didn't have a covered Bridge. Also, I was delighted to hear that the St. Louis Cardinals, had come back to win Friday night too. My radio reception really stank, so I stopped listening around the 7^th inning. We were able to find some really good deals on some books and toys for Gavin. The best part is that he was able to play with them and really enjoyed them. So, come Christmas we already know that he likes them (Won’t be able to do that in a couple years.) After a long day of walking, we needed to leave earlier than years past. Gavin was tried, so we headed home around 5:00. Both Gavin and Kristin were able to get some shut eye, as we had an uneventful ride home.

On Sunday, we found ourselves at Church, one of the few times this year (not to mention in the hallway.) During the homily, Father asked someone from the “Finance Committee”, to speak. I was really turned off by this. Wrong time, Wrong Place. . . I’ve always know that the Church is trying to get more money, and I can understand why then need more, but come on, not during the service. For ‘God’s’ sake, put a headliner in the bulletin or something and the leave the church service to hear the word of ‘God’, not to hear about the Church’s financial needs. As stated earlier, we were in the hallway, so the church obviously has plenty parishioners. The money will come. Please leave it out of the service. A REAL turn off for me.

2006/10/24:

This past weekend was a busy one. Starting on Friday, I went to Lake Shelbyville with my father-in-law Rick. We left town at 5:30 and didn’t get back until 4:30 PM. While at the lake we searched for Crappie and some new crappie holes. That being places that crappie occupied. We were able to collect 5 that kept and about 25 that didn’t. The areas fished were across from the Wilborn beach (caught 4 that kept), Wilborn Creek (no bites), in the Okaw (one chip), buzzards roost (no bites), then headed home.

We would follow up on Saturday with the “Springfield Crappie Club” open buddy tournament (2006/10/21), On Saturday, in order to weight in, you can catch up to 7 Crappie, all being 10 inches long. Well, we could only muster up 6, and of the six 2 were just barely 10 inches. So, we didn’t weigh in L. We ended up catching most in “No Name” cove, back and to the left, a huge bluff protected us from the wind and we were able to pick up 3 fish. One positive note is that we found a couple new fishing holes for future events.

Saturday evening finished well, I had a couple of work tasks to complete. One was to complete the installations of a SSL cert for the CommunityEdRegistration site and the other was to change the password for the sa account on SQL Server PSOFT. Both were completed and went very well. This put a positive spin on the end of my day.

2006/10/22

On this Sunday in October, we had our 22 month old son Gavin baptized at St. Patrick’s Church of Merna, located on Towanda Barnes and Rt 9, in Bloomington, IL. The baptism went as well as expected for a 22 month old. Kristin and I have decided that if we have another child, he or she will be baptized within a couple months of birth. A reception followed at our house. My dad brought over Italian beef and we had plenty beer, wine, and hot chocolate. For the weather on this day was quite cold. With the wind chill, it felt like it was about 20° F. Attendees were as followed: Grandma Great (Feit), Great Grandpa Thomas Dirks, Great Grandpa Les, Papa (Thomas), Grandma Patty, Pops (Rick), Grandma Terri, Grandpa Alan, Grandma D (Donna), Aunt Cindi, Uncle John (Suzi), Aunt Julie (Ron), Aunt Brie, Uncle Erick (Alana), Cousins: Carli, Mason, Emily, Kayla. Gift include many books, Aunt Cindi made a blanket, one side with the St. Cardinals and the other with the Chicago Cubs.
